App used to have a keyboard for command entry. It no longer does. I'm hearing impaired, so voice commands are problematic. I really would appreciate having the ability to type commands again. Also, because only voice commands, and my hearing issues, it rarely understands what I'm saying. *a year later and this is still an issue. seriously, a keyboard option for us with hearing issues. come on. 7-25-25
Apparently this no longer works with Google Home devices. As of today, it no longer controls lights. It tells me it can't find the device to turn off, on, or adjust the brightness. I've left feedback from telling it to leafy back and attempted to use the length leaf feedback, but the link always errors out saying something went wrong. I've attempted multiple times for multiple devices but it does not work.
Rough, wish it was the go to app for everything like it wants to be. Consistently disconnects my phone from my wifi when simply opening the app. I cannot view cameras (let alone quickly), cannot access lights consistently, just frustrating. Not sure if it's a pixel/Google home issue, but I'd assume they would work together in the same family.
I can never connect a device in one go. There's always an issue in some connection step. Any troubleshooting is a pain to go through and not easy to follow. I dread everytime I have to open the app to connect a new device. You should also be able to ignore devices found if they aren't yours. I shouldn't have to skip over the device a neighbor has over and over to just try to find the one I'm trying to set up.
This app is actually horrible now. I have constantly been having issues with my Roku Smart Bulb LE, but they used to go away after a few minutes to hours. Now, all connected Roku devices just don't work. They work in the Roku app, but not in Google Home. Setting up a Nest Mini was also terrible. It made me download an app to activate it, but the app isn't even compatible with any devices I own. UI elements are off the screen and unreachable. This app really does need to be fixed.
very inconsistent. sometimes it works. sometimes it doesn't. now, it doesn't work and when i go to automations, home, and try to check presence sensing, it goes to the play store. UPDATE: I removed all my Gosund lights and re added them. reinstalled both, gosund and home. either that helped, or maybe the developer foxed whatever was wrong. so far, my lights turn off when I leave and on when i arrive, as expected... for now.. I updated my 1 star to 4 stars for now.
This was great, but a few months back something changed/updated. I use this with my Google home mini as an Alarm each morning, and have it set to play the radio, KCRW (a Los Angeles station 89.9 FM), but now I can't get it to play the radio station that I want, it only plays "KCRW Eclectic 24 from tune in" which is not what I'm trying to listen to. Why did they break something that worked, makes me want to throw it all away if I think about it too much. Please fix it, it used to work.
I like how I can operate all of my devices from this app, but it's kinda a let down. I expected more from Google. it keeps saying my devices are disconnected, and it has to be from the app itself and not the internet because they work fine on their own app. the automations pick and choose when they want to work and what parts of them work as well. if you string several together in a chain, only 1 might work, or one day they all decide to fail and not start. Google please improve!
It helps, when it decides to actually work... But the other 90% of the time, it's useless because it won't work. Even when it does work, in the middle of the device setup, it prompts for an app update that doesn't exist, which interrupts the device setup, and skips several necessary steps. I'm not sure that this app is ready for production, and needs to be put back in beta for a while, to iron out some major bugs.
The home devices are fine, and work as expected but the camera/nest stuff went from $60/yr to ,$80/yr to now $100/yr! (this was over 3 years) and have not released a single new feature or ability or upgrade path or nothing with that money. Definitely moving to a different system that shows they value their customers. If you're on the fence with the nest system. It isn't worth it
hard to know what commands it will and won't follow at any given. time. does not work great with YouTube music app or other music apps. if you ask for an album, it often plays the song. probably best to use your phone to navigate what you want to have happen on the speakers and then cast it. feels like some days it will answer some questions and other days it won't.
This app is abysmal at loading sometimes, whether it be live or pre-recorded videos. For instance it's not letting me pull up videos that I need from certain days on some cameras, it just shows an infinite loading icon no matter what I do. Aside from being really bad at loading almost anything, this app is great and convenient to use whenever it works!
Videos don't load due to errors. The playback is glitchy. Layout is terrible and feels like 3 different products all jambed together. The cameras are wonderful. The app needs a total redo. 3 years on and no improvement. now another price hike. cameras taking longer and longer to charge. this has been a bad investment. goodbye, google Home.
Recent update changed how light commands work, and now the unit repeats the command back when before it would just ding. Might seem minor to some, but for me it's annoying enough to not want to use my unit anymore. Will likely get rid of it since there are no settings to change that in app from what I can see. I use light commands (on, off, dim, color) frequently, and now that the unit is repeating the entire command back every time, I'd rather get a standalone remote controlled system.
I expect more out of Google. It's not an intuitive app at all. It's difficult to navigate and everything requires many "clicks" and feels buried. Not only that but the latest update messed up routines (at least that's the main place I've noticed). You cannot make adjustments and save anything. The check mark in the upper right is high and overlaps the top of the screen with notifications and pressing it does nothing. Also will not connect light bulbs right now. Gets to the end and fails.
lots of devices just stopped working.... how about some floating up some error messages as to WHY home thinks the devices are 'off line'. Simply stating 'off line' is not useful when I know for a fact they are online and accessible via their native apps. back 'on line' now after re-authenticating. yeah, no the passwords had not changed. simply for some unknown reason home dropped the link. useful error messages please.
Update: I have to keep setting it up Chromecast disconnects too often and isn't consistent. It's hard to watch anything you cast from your phone from start to finish unless it's the YouTube app. Any other app is unreliable. It will connect to a room that I selected but when I play a movie or a TV show as soon as an ad or commercial pops up, kiss whatever you're watching goodbye. It won't play, it just keeps loading. What's the point of having it if I can't ever fully watch anything? I hate it.
Adding Nest products is a huge hassle. If I want to change my Wi-Fi password, it shouldn't take an act of Congress to reconnect my Nest cameras. Factory reset, are you kidding me? Why not: open the app, find the Wi-Fi, connect to the Wi-Fi? Once everything gets connected the app is fine, but I still have to use the separate Nest app to program the thermostat. Google should be embarrassed.
Terrible! App was working fine for awhile, now it will not load any videos recorded on my cameras, notifies me without footage, and glitches with footage if it allows me to open the event. Tried to uninstall and reinstall, clear the cache, and even deleted the data... still same issues. My wife can work her App just fine.
Usually works fine and is convenient to have all the smart stuff easy to access in one location. Sometimes some kind of desync happens with the Google servers and the speakers don't function properly in a variety of ways. Also, getting issues with location a lot. Sometimes radio won't play with an error saying but available in you region/country. Even though it is a local station.
